East Dorset based MJP Law Solicitors have been recognised by Cancer Research UK after facilitating over £3.5million in gifts from people choosing to leave a legacy to the charity in their Will.
The private client team of MJP Law and Managing Director Martin Pate were presented with a gold certificate to acknowledge the firm’s commitment to the cause at their office on West Borough, Wimborne. MJP Law also have offices in Kinson and Verwood and has been offering Cancer Research UK’s Free Will Service to people aged 55 and over since the firm was founded, giving guidance and support to those wishing to write a Will or update an existing one. This includes advising people who may wish to leave a legacy gift to the charity.
Gifts in Wills fund over a third of the charity’s life-saving research. Without these gifts, Cancer Research UK would not be able to undertake the vital research that will one day beat cancer for more people in Dorset and across the UK. The charity aims to increase adult survival of cancer to 3 in 4 people by 2034.
Martin said: “We’re proud to support Cancer Research UK, a cause that affects so many of our clients, colleagues and loved ones. The charity does local research, with labs in Southampton so it’s great that our work and the generosity of our clients will make such a difference to the local community as well as across the UK. I’m really proud that as part of writing people’s wills, ensuring their loved ones are provided for in the future, we can also talk to our clients about how they can leave a legacy to charities and causes they are passionate about.”
Together with their supporters, Cancer Research UK has played a role in developing 8 out the world’s top 10 cancer drugs; helped prove the link between tobacco and cancer, preventing millions of deaths worldwide and were a key player in the development of radiotherapy, which benefits more than 130,000 patients every year in the UK.
Cancer Research UK’s Free Will Service has been running successfully for many years across a network of solicitors nationwide. People using the service are asked to consider leaving a legacy gift to Cancer Research UK but are under no obligation to do so.
